Continuing the diverse series of events marking the 400th anniversary of Liepāja, the Liepāja Museum presents a photo exhibition, “Beautiful Liepāja – 400”, which was created in collaboration with the Liepāja Museum and the society “Liepāja 400”.
The exhibition features 80 images from the late 19th century to the end of the first period of independence, allowing Liepāja residents and visitors to enjoy specially selected, processed, and enlarged pictures previously seen in albums, romantic postcards, and collectors’ photographs.
Visitors to the exhibition can see how a particular place looks today or watch a historical video using the App “Old Libau.” This is the first time in Latvia that an exhibition of this kind has been held at the Liepāja Museum, where the history of a Latvian city and the present day are intertwined with the help of a telephone.
The exhibition aims to promote Liepāja and its 400th anniversary. Liepāja, as the society “Liepāja 400” points out, is endowed with a special aura, rich and significant history, events, and exceptional people, whose names we mention today both in street names and talk about them from a cultural and historical point of view in literary and research publications and at various events.
The exhibition shows how beautiful and dynamic Liepāja was in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, its everyday life, and its obvious growth in the city’s environmental landscape. The urban planning and construction of this period can also be seen in the features of Liepāja today.
Entrance fee: adults EUR 1,50, schoolchildren, students and senior citizens EUR 1,00.
